I decided to pick this one up on a whim, as Charlie Higson's next book, King Zero, arrives next week and I'll be covering it here.
Imagine a new Bond novel in the tone of the Roger Moore era Bond films, OHMSS would be it.
Bond wrestles with morality and duty on his latest assignment, ensuring the King’s Coronation. There is a consistent conundrum for the reader to contend with...Why does Bond do what he does for KING and Country? Going toe to toe with perceived modern day fascism, OHMSS is political, in very few words it takes a moderate and pragmatic approach to today’s political landscape. The villain? Elliot Carver meets Nigel Farage. Love him or hate him, the book’s stance is clear. This is a book for a wider Bond audience, though: our beloved tropes, brevity, and a biting critique of Disneyland Paris.
