The things that look effortless, the content that lands, the style that clicks…These happen when you’re not forcing it. Natural talent, taste, and tenacity work best when they're not weaponised. A mechanical timepiece is so complex in its architecture and yet its function and desired form for the user is so simple. Strive to be that.
The dharma has this concept called doership. I’ve thought a lot on it. I’m not a deep student of Buddhism. But my relation to it amounts to having spent major seasons of my life loitering outside the temple, listening beneath an open window. The pain of being a "doer", obsessively working at something until you're either brilliant or toxic at it. I've done both. If you’re here, you’ll typically win any race you have entered, even if it's to the bottom. But that’s not a worthy objective.
Operating system: Keep your mission as the thing you don't try too hard at. Note that doesn’t mean to stop trying. It means aim for mastery while focusing on these: simple, effortless, sometimes sparse. Always good and substantial.
This may mean less frequency, fewer or shorter rendezvous, but more impact.
